World wide web
World Wide Web (eller WWW) er et hypertext system der fungerer over internettet. I daglig tale bruges termen internettet ofte om World Wide Web.
For at se information på WWW, bruger man et stykke software kaldet en browser til at hente web sider, fra en web server og vise dem på brugerens skærm. Brugeren kan så følge hyperlinks til andre sider eller sende information tilbage til serveren. Det at følge et hyperlink kaldes også at surfe på internettet.
Som basis for WWW er der tre standarder: En URL der specificere en unik adresse for hver eneste side på WWW; HTTP der specificere hvordan browseren og serveren sender information til hinanden, og HTML der definere hvordan informationen skal formateres så den kan vises af browseren.
For at finde rundt på WWW bruger man ofte en søgemaskine, den største søgemaskine er Google. I Danmark er blandt andet Jubii en populær søgemaskine.
